Campaign Friends and Supporters Update #17Michelle Sanche2025-01-23T02:21:53+00:00

August, 2024
Dear Friends and Supporters of the Rebuilding Our Church Campaign,
Here’s an update on what’s been happening, with the cathedral renewal work and more.
South Stair Replacement: Progress
Further advances have been made on the south stair: the stairs and railings are completed, the washroom at the base of the stairs is finished, and the flooring, millwork and painting are nearing completion. There have been challenges with matching the exterior parging to the rest of the building, and a new product is being evaluated. The copper for the parapets has arrived and is awaiting installation. Many thanks to the variety of dedicated Holy Rosary volunteers who helped with the landscaping.
Barrier-free Access: Elevator Replacement and Accessible Washrooms
The accessible elevator has been installed and is awaiting inspection. The accessible washrooms on the main floor and in the basement are both operational. The elevator vestibule still needs some final millwork, flooring, painting and minor electrical work. Unfortunately, the exterior door to the vestibule was damaged during installation and has required repair. The new sidewalk is now complete, and landscaping  is mostly finished.
Note: Both work packages are currently projected by the contractor to be complete in September, 2024.
Cathedral Renewal Phase 1 Construction Budget Report
Ochapowace-Chacachas Culture Camp
Abundant thanks to those of you who donated to the archdiocese’s TRC Healing Response Fund, either by redirecting or by adding to your Rebuilding Our Church pledges. Here is a video from the Ochapowace-Chacachas Culture Camp supported by your gifts and funded through the national Indigenous Reconciliation Fund:

Looking to the Future
What’s next for the cathedral work?
The Project Steering Committee is evaluating the following assessments, reports and budgets:
  1. The Towers and Spires: JCK Engineering has completed a detailed structural assessment of the spires and has recently provided a report outlining their recommendations and an initial budget.
  2. The Lower Level: SEPW Architecture has provided a pre-design report and supporting budget for how the restoration and renewal of the lower level could proceed.
What’s next for the capital campaign? Since it is still in the quiet phase for now, once the design information and budgets are further developed, we will be approaching donors in the hope that they will help with the funds required to undertake the next packages of work. Later, when the time is right, we will ask everyone in the parish, the archdiocese and the wider community to consider participating. We hope friends and supporters will contribute what they can, so that our cathedral building can serve for the next 100 years.
We offer heartfelt thanks to all of you who have supported this campaign so far. Because this process has taken much longer than expected, some of you who donated early have reached the end of your 5-year pledge commitment: we are so grateful to those of you who have generously extended your pledges so that this important and much-needed work can continue.
As always, we trust in the Holy Spirit’s inspiration and guidance in Rebuilding Our Church.
Summer blessings,

   Your Campaign Team

Archbishop Don Bolen, Lisa Polk, Michelle Sanche, John Dipple, Mo Bundon, Samy McCarthy, Ron Kruzeniski, Garth Herbert and James Lipoth
