Welcome to Phase 2 of Cathedral Renewal: Spires, Towers and North Façade.
This $5M phase will involve the most technically challenging work of the Cathedral Renewal, since it will impact the iconic face of Holy Rosary Cathedral.
This phase will involve two work packages: 1) The Spires and Related Interior Tower Work (estimated cost of $3.8M), and 2) Exterior Tower and North Façade Work (estimated cost of $1.2M).

The Spires and Related Interior Work
After a thorough assessment, JCK Engineering has advised that Holy Rosary’s spires have reached the end of their service life:
“In 2024 JCK Engineering provided a detailed assessment and conservation strategy report for the spires at Holy Rosary Cathedral. During our detailed assessment we found that water infiltration has compromised the framing and connectors that support the spires. We also found that water has caused damage to the brick masonry that supports the spires. Either repair or replacement of the spires was deemed necessary.
A detailed analysis of reconstruction options determined that complete demolition and replacement of the spires is appropriate from a cost and long-term performance perspective. The cost of restoring the existing spires is greater than a complete replacement due to the long-term rental costs and limited access that a scaffold structure provides. The current plan is to remove the existing spires and replace them entirely with spires that are constructed at ground level and lifted into place with a crane. Detailed measurements of the existing spires with laser scans allow for the spires to be replicated to a high degree of accuracy.”

Born of necessity, and supported by a vibrant vision, this campaign presents all of us as missionary disciples with a special opportunity to ensure the cornerstones of our Catholic faith community will continue for the next 100 years. What we build together will be inspired and transformed by faith.
