Campaign Friends and Supporters Update #11

Dear Friends and Supporters of the Rebuilding Our Church Campaign,
Here’s an update on what’s been happening with the campaign and in our archdiocese.

Archbishop Don Update

During his March trip to visit the archdiocese’s project in Cuernavaca, Mexico, Archbishop Don underwent surgery after a fall that fractured his left hip. While recovery requires patience and endurance, Don is faring well and has returned to work at the Pastoral Centre. Thank you to all who have been praying for Don in his recovery; it is genuinely felt and appreciated.

Cathedral Renewal Update

SEPW Architecture is currently finalizing construction drawings for our first two cathedral work packages. Both packages are expected to go out for bid in May. With our progress in the past few months, we are on pace to begin construction for Barrier-free Access upgrades and South Exit Stair replacement in July.

SEPW and the project team will continue planning the Tower and North Façade package. SEPW has also been engaged to start initial planning for Phase 2 work packages.

Archdiocese of Regina Healing Response Fund Update

We echo Archbishop Don’s thanks to all campaign donors who contributed to the archdiocese’s Healing Response in 2021 and 2022. These funds are now held by the national Indigenous Reconciliation Fund (IRF) on behalf of our archdiocese, to be used to support projects here.

The first IRF project approved in all of Canada was a culture camp at Cote First Nation, near Kamsack, in July of 2022. Here’s a video about the camp: https://youtu.be/gMlVeowch4A

Pastoral Centre Update

In the words of staff member Brianne Cascanette:

“At the start of January, we hosted an open house after a couple of months of settling in. Archbishop Don blessed our new space, and staff led visitors through mini-tours to get a feel for the new space. It was an excellent chance to connect and make the new office feel more like a home base!

We are thankful for this space where we can establish ourselves and cultivate a sense of community as we discern what is to come.
